March 2022 partnership with ✨

We partnered with 5000 Pies to raise money to support a local business that provides youth the opportunity to make a difference in their own communities!

WHY 5000 PIES?

More than just a means to a paycheck

5000 Pies is a social enterprise of Fountain of Life Covenant Church seeking to empower West Long Beach’s youth through life skills coaching and culinary training. Through their restaurant, they are redesigning richness and seeking to love their community.

In a neighborhood that has long suffered from poverty, crime, and gentrification, 5000 Pies is helping students enter the employment field early AND teaching adults culinary skills on the weekends.

They’ve invested in their community by offering employment to students and teaching them life skills. From making pizzas from scratch to manning the cash register, young staff members gain valuable experience and can have fun doing it!

More than just a means to a paycheck, these jobs provide youth the opportunity to make difference in their own communities. So by supporting 5000 Pies, you are also supporting their community!

“Pay it forward" with generosity, rather than focusing on “paying it back!”

Led by CEO Becky Teter and Michael Martinez (aka Chef Mike), 5000 Pies crafts hand-made deep dish pizzas, cookies, and their famous Jaguar Fries! 5000 Pies is a take-out Pizza Parlor located in Long Beach! It is also a social enterprise of Fountain of Life Covenant Church that has been serving the Long Beach community since 2014.

While their food is absolutely AMAZING, what makes 5000 Pies stand apart from all the other pizza parlors out there is the relationship to their own community! Fun fact, their signature Jaguar fries were actually named after the mascot of the nearby Cabrillo High School! Obviously, the neighborhood bond goes much deeper, though, as 5000 Pies really comes alongside youth to mentor them.

Their involvement with the community is a testament to their definition of generosity which is as “an outpouring of the grace that God has shown and continues to show [them] each day.

Our Collaboration Process

We Listen…

Before we started planning the campaign and designing the stickers, we hopped on a call to hear 5000 Pies’ story, how they started, their mission, etc… By doing so, we can set aside our own assumptions and thoughts and understand their perspective. Fun fact: some of our GenGen team got to visit 5000 Pies in person and got to talk to Chef Mike in person! If you ever plan to go, try the Jag fries, you won’t regret it!

Then Ideate…

After listening, we brainstorm as a team how we can convey 5000 Pies’ story in a fun and insightful way on our GenGen Instagram. We take time to ideate various content for IG reels and posts. It’s important for us to make sure we are intentionally creating content that aligns with what 5000 Pies have shared with us to best convey their story well!

And Execute!

Once we have a content schedule in place, we divide the work based on our respective roles. From copywriting to designing to scheduling, we keep each other accountable through updates and organized dates to make sure we create content in an orderly manner! :D

“Knowing someone is thinking of us makes us feel that we are not alone and brings so much comfort and healing.” @wooqiart

What does generosity mean to you?

Generosity is a major part of my life! I first learned the importance of generosity from my incredible mom, and have since grown to feel more fulfillment, love, and joy through giving to others than I could ever experience from receiving. I believe that the heart and thought process behind generosity is incredibly important because knowing someone is thinking of us makes us feel that we are not alone and brings so much comfort and healing.

What inspired your sticker design?

My sticker design stems from the concept of relationships. Just like GenGen and 5000 Pies, I deeply value teamwork and community. I believe that it is incredibly important to proactively help those who are in need and build authentic relationships, especially now with the pandemic.

“Generosity is the drive to keep on giving and helping others with a kind heart no matter the circumstances.” @wooapple

What does generosity mean to you?

I believe that generosity is reflected by a kind and selfless heart; by giving without expecting reciprocation. Generosity is the drive to keep on giving and helping others with a kind heart no matter the circumstances.

What inspired your sticker design?

I hope 5000 Pies’ story inspires you to spread love - to share and love endlessly. 5000 Pies reflects that exact phrase by sharing their endless love and passion for their local community through mentorship programs, employment opportunities - and making great food!

Just like GenGen, I hope to fill the cups of others to pass generosity on, one person at a time. I hope my design not only captures 5000 Pies’ heart but also their amazing food!
